Do you need to purchase a domain name?
Tips on choosing a domain name
1. Your domain name should closely match or be as relevant as possible to your business name or brand. Your customers will find it a lot easier to find you. Take into account the human memory. It's a lot easier to remember words then an acronym. e.g. TheCamdenHearingAidClinic.com.au instead of tchac.com.au.
Tip. To avoid disappointment...If you are starting a new business check, not only the business name but also the domain name availability before you register both.
2. Shorter domain names are easier to remember, quicker to type and less susceptible to mistakes. e.g. CamdenHearing.com.au and still be easy to remember and relevant.
3. Domain names that have site keywords in them have an advantage when ranking with some search engines.
4. com. org. net. ??? Each one of these TLD's (top level domains) tells the customer about the structure of the organization. E.g. dot com is for commercial dot org is usually for non-profit organizations dot net is for networks etc. etc. There are also country specific TLD's e.g. au = Australia; uk = United Kingdom; nz = New Zealand
Tip. If your website is only ever going to cater for the local market then getting a country specific domain name is very important. e.g. mywebsite.com.au = a commercial site based in Australia catering for Australians.
5. Mulitple domain names. Many businesses purchase more than one domain name. In fact, you can have as many as you like and point them all to the one website.
